Well, it’s been quite a year. I am not usually one to look back and reflect; instead I’m always three steps ahead, looking at what I’m doing next. When I do look back, it’s usually only to see what I didn’t accomplish, so I can add it to the never-ending to-do list. However, seeing as that’s probably not the healthiest way to go through life (though it does keep me productive), I’m going to flip back through the calendar and see what this past year was about.
To start with, I traveled a LOT! There were only 2 months where I didn’t travel out of state for gigs, which is part of the reason why I am trying to stay home as much as possible this year. Here’s the breakdown:
138 burlesque shows
36 cities (not counting multiple visits to each)
34 classes9 countries visited (3 new to me)
No wonder I’m so tired! It was so great getting back to Europe and perform, seeing old friends and making lots of new ones too. It’s fascinating to see how the burlesque scene is growing around the world, and the different directions people are taking the art in their communities.
I also focused on improving my photography and delved more into video this year. I was invited to show my photography in Brooklyn and Asbury Park, NJ. After working in digital for so many years, it was nice to get back to my roots and finally see my newer images in print.
I also finally completed and self-published my book Everyday Bombshell. It’s been a work in progress since 2006, and ever since I moved to New York a few years ago, it’s been at the top of my ‘projects to finish’ pile, but I kept pushing it aside until this summer. I’d like to thank fellow burlesque photographer Francine Daveta for spending a day shooting all the step-by-step hair and makeup instructional photos to help me illustrate the book, and all my friends who either contributed images, read through my draft, and helped me design the layout. I couldn’t have done it without you! And a special thanks to everyone who purchased a copy and put in wholesale orders, it means so much to me, and I hope you find the book useful. I love having one-on-one time with my students to help them learn how to be a fabulous bombshell, but I can’t be everywhere I want to be, and I also wanted a more affordable version of my class. If you have a copy already, I’d love to hear your feedback about it. If you want to find out more about the book and how to order your copy, click here!
To everyone who booked me, hosted me, photographed me, performed alongside me, helped me find vegan foods in their town or has otherwise been awesome in 2014: THANK YOU!!!
I’m going to start off 2015 fresh, doing a juice cleanse to kick-start a healthy year, and starting today, doing a 21-day yoga challenge to get into good habits and take care of this body that I push to the limit every day. What are your goals this year? I’d love to hear them.
